Jesuit Refugee Service-Europe

The Jesuit Refugee Service-Europe is an international Catholic organisation founded by the Jesuits in 1980. Its mission is to accompany, to serve and to plead the cause of refugees and other forcibly displaced people. JRS is working in over 50 countries worldwide. Important areas of work are education (Africa and Asia), administrative detention (USA, Asia and Europe) and pastoral care. JRS-Europe monitors EU legislation and policies on asylum and irregular migration, and focuses on: administrative detention, migration and development, and destitute migrants without a clear legal status. JRS is operational in 12 countries in Europe, (including old and new EU Member States, as well as Candidate Countries). Some of the activities are:
visiting asylum seekers in detention, giving legal advice to asylum seekers and irregular migrants, counseling those traumatized by persecution and flight, advocacy at national level, serving as chaplains in open and closed detention facilities.
